Kirsten's first days of 2nd grade!

Kirsten started school last Thursday. She loves her teacher and her class. She keeps telling me how much easier 2nd grade is than 1st. Hopefully that lasts! Funny story from her first few days. She sits at a table of boys. I was asking her if she talks much to the boys at her table. She sheepishly said "yea". I could tell they had talked about something too embarrassing to say. She wanted me to guess so i kept asking her "did he say this?" "did he say that?" And then finally told me that a boy asked her if she wanted to marry him and then said "what am I saying?! You are cute, but what am I saying?!". We both got a good laugh out of it! Here's hoping she continues to love 2nd grade!

Colton's first day

Here is the only pic I got of Colton on his first day of pre-K. Since he was there for a lot of last year all the teachers know him, which was really nice! The day before school started Kirsten asked him if he wanted to go to school tomorrow and he said, "no sanks (thanks)". He wasn't too excited about it but I think he did ok anyway.

Popsicles

The kids did a lot of this this Summer.

Easy Bake oven and the Olympics

Kirsten really wanted to have a party while watching gymnastics a couple weeks ago. We decided to make donuts. We had so much fun making them and watching gymnastics. They weren't as delicious as we hoped but it didn't matter. Kirsten pretended to be an Olympic athlete all during the olympics. She ran around like a track star, did tricks with a ribbon (or a piece of yarn... She really likes the pole vaulting, diving, and synchro swimming.
Kirsten was posing the other day for the camera. She wanted me to put it on my blog:)

The zoo

It finally cooled down enough to go to the zoo this week. We went with some friends from church.
The train scared Max a little.
Of course Colton's favorite part was the train. He wanted to ride the train so bad and finally right before we left he got to ride it.
Kirsten loved running around with her friends.
Max looked so cute in his big shirt the other Sunday after his bath. I had to take a picture or two! He looked cute when he got dressed too. Colton wanted in on the action.

Garden

Kirsten and I planted a garden in the spring. As usual it ended in heartbreak. We got some tomatoes. It was fun to watch max pick the little grape tomatoes and eat them whenever he went outside. But other than that, we had something (probably crazy bunnies who somehow got through my fence) eat everything that actually survived the drought and fungus. Then we found this watermelon! We were so excited! But it wasn't that great... Oh well we had fun anyway.

Fun with Puffy Paint

Colton

Some Colton memories from the last two days.
Yesterday at therapy Colton was playing with a jeep and this little forest toy. So his therapist brought out the little critter bucket. She handed Colton a snake, which he took and held in his hand. When she said the word snake Colton freaked out and threw it on the ground. She showed him an alligator and he said "put that away!". I have no idea why he's so scared! It was pretty cute though because he doesn't say a whole lot so it was pretty funny that he was so adamant about putting those critters away.

Today we were swimming. Kirsten wanted to play this silly game Emily taught her. Basically, I would think of a color in my head while holding Kirsten like a baby. When she guessed wrong she gets dunked. After we played Colton came over and wanted me to hold him and he started saying things like "pajamas!", "bananas", "Christmas trees"... And would wait to get dunked after every word, laughing every time I dunked him. Kirsten and I were cracking up. I get so surprised by how much he understands sometimes!
And we finally potty trained him a couple weeks ago!!! I wasn't sure it would ever happen but he did so well!
Colton went over to Kirsten and said "hey Kirsten! You want to play on the stairs?" that was a very big sentence of Mr. C! They has lots of fun jumping down the stairs on these. Thanks to daddy for teaching them!
This morning we made jello play dough.
Max kept singing snowman and smashing the snowmen I made as he said "small, small, small".
Colton made a handprint and said "look at my fingers mommy". Kirsten made some heart shaped cookies and helped me roll the dough out. Because this dough actually made cookies too(thank goodness for pinterest). The boys may or may not have licked the dough while playing with it. It all cooks out though, right??
Ever since Kirsten made a diorama in school last year she has loved making them at home. Every shoe box is quickly turned into an ecosystem of some kind. This was her latest.
We've tried to follow a schedule most days this summer. One thing on our schedule was workbook pages for Kirsten. She said she loved doing them, but there were quite a few days she tried to negotiate her way out of them:) we did have fun working together on these.
You can see Max crying in the back ground. He and Colton were fighting over a box...
Kirsten was up in her room for a long time one day. She told me not to go in there. Then she had me close my eyes while she ran downstairs and put this cute picture in my room to surprise me. Sure love that little sweetheart!
Before she brought her finished picture down. She borrowed my phone, ran up to her room, and came back saying, "look what I found on Pinterst" while showing me this picture;)

Outside

Kirsten and Colton were playing with their water guns. Max decided to find a squirt gun for himself so he found this little spray bottle and started spraying everybody and everything.

We've spent most a lot of our time this summer swimming in the backyard. When Max would go down for his nap, Kirsten, Colton and I, headed out to the pool.  The best was when daddy got to come too. We had so much fun swimming this Summer and I'm pretty sad Summer is over!
