The trail

We went swimming at the river by "the trail" a couple nights ago.
Jonathan and Kirsten skipping rocks

I told Kirsten that rock looked like an Ice Cream cone, she wanted to see if it tasted like one.

Picnic at the park

We're very happy that the schools went on strike this year causing school to get out really late and pushing swimming lessons back so that there could be swimming lessons on Saturday and Jonathan could come and watch. Anyway, we watched Kirsten swim, which was very exciting. And then we headed over to the park and ate lunch and played.

Colton enjoying the park...

Kirsten has always been our little monkey...

Jonathan's 5 Miler

Last Friday Jonathan ran a 5 mile race in Media. We decided to go and cheer him on. Here they are getting ready for the race (and yes that smudge is still on the lens)...

Here he is over halfway through the race. I didn't calculate the timing very well and he is pretty far away from the camera but oh well. When he ran past us Kirsten was yelling "go daddy, go daddy".

The race was super hilly which he had not really trained for but he ran the whole time and he finished in pretty good time!

"Why don't you sing the Summer song with me mom"

Kirsten's Swimming Lessons

Kirsten has been counting down the days until she got to start swimming lessons. She came into our room at 5:30 am on Wed. and said, "I get to go to swimming lessons today!". The whole way there she was screaming in the backseat because she was so excited. Then we got there and she was a little nervous. She told me that she cried a little bit because she didn't want to put her face in the water but then the next day she did. They don't want us to stand by the pool until observation day so I'll get better pics then. Oh an there is a splotch on my camera in all of these pictures.

Thanks, grandma, for the adorable swimsuit!

By the time Kirsten is done she is shivering so bad she can hardly talk. It has only been in the upper 70s but most of the other kids are fine. She told me she was shaking really bad in class and was trying really hard not too. She was so proud of herself for going under water all by herself, hopefully by next week she'll jump in the pool. The pool is at a Creek and it's really pretty.

Colton Update

Colton is 2 months!
He had his 2 month check up today. I severely injured my toe this morning while trying to pop a balloon (don't ask...) so I was a little out of it. But I did get that he is 55% for his length and 95th for his weight and head size. So yeah he's a chubby boy. Following after his uncle Eric as far as his head size goes...he grew into it eventually and hopefully it means that he'll be as smart as his uncle Eric too (bigger the head bigger the brain, right Eric?)
Anyway, the poor kid had an ear infection which we had no idea about. So maybe that's why he's been so cranky. His head also has a severe tilt to the right so we have to stretch his neck out 3 times a day (I guess that head is too heavy for his little body). He is such a wonderful little baby. After having Kirsten I had no idea that newborns actually sleep at night. He's getting to be so much fun and my favorite thing is how he'll just look right at me and "talk". It's the sweetest thing.
We'll see if he ends up as addicted to milk as Kirsten still is. She's still very sweet and motherly with him.

Ok so I have not done much of anything the last couple weeks. Last week I read this book. Which pretty much occupied all of my kid free time. This was a really interesting book but probably the most depressing book I've ever read. Just when you think it could not get any worse it does. I am so grateful to live in America after reading it and so sad for those people who have to endure so much. I cannot even imagine having to worry about my children starving or dying of thirst or being murdered. I hope I can remember how blessed I am and not take it for granted as much.

Ok, so you know how children's shows try to teach kids a message by having the character do something wrong and then teaching them that it's wrong? So, yeah, that doesn't work, at least for my child. In the last week Kirsten has picked up some interesting habits from watching Berenstain Bears.
It started early this week when Jonathan asked Kirsten to say prayers before bedtime. Kirsten folded her arms put her head down and said "It's not fair". That comes from an episode when Brother and Sister bear were asked to clean up a vacation home before playing at the beach.
Another episode of "bears" taught the importance of not saying bad words or calling people names. Sister bear watched a naughty movie in which the main character called someone else a "furball", which apparently in Bear Country is like saying the "F" word. So last night Kirsten took Jonathan's shoes and put them in Colton's closet. We told her not to do that because Daddy would not be able to find his shoes. So Jonathan was putting his shoes away when Kirsten said "You're such a furball".
So, needless to say, I think we're done watching the bears.

Oh and I need to write this down for my own memory because it was really funny and I don't want to forget. So last Wednesday we had a ward playgroup at the park. Michael, Kirsten's friend and love of her life, was there. They were so cute together. They would run up to each other and hold hands and then follow each other around the whole time. They sat on the bench eating teddy grahams and just talking away. Whenever they couldn't find each other we could see them searching trying to find the other one, and one time when they found each other they ran to each other from opposite sides of the park with open arms and gave each other this big old hug. Words can't describe I need to take some pictures next time.

I want to get married...

We were watching The Prince of Egypt this week. When Moses was getting married Kirsten said "I want to get married"
me: "When you get older and meet a nice boy"
Kirsten: "I want to marry Michael (Kirsten's friend) and Michael wants to marry me. We sure love each other."

A friend of mine brought over 2 garbage bags full of clothes for Colton! It was amazing. Here are some of the awesome free clothes. Kirsten had to get in the picture. Here is a picture for you Grandpa Turner...recognize this shirt?
I need to write more but I'm talking to my sister right now and I can't concentrate.
